2020 Begins Happy New Year

Happy Lunar New Year! Well the new decade has begun (or not as my sister maintains). My creative journey continues with Arley Berryhill ‘s pattern “Penny Dreadful “. I will be displaying her at the Coast Collective Gallery show called “Red”. She was a joy to make. I used the colour red as my inspiration:
Whenever I start a new project, I decide on the colour story and then put together fabrics and trims in a basket.  I generally never use all the fabrics I initially choose but it is important to have choices on hand when I am creating.  In making this doll, I had all the fabrics already in my home stash, including the trims and trinkets ( I love adding those special details to my dolls).  I am very pleased with the results and I named this gal Lady Victoria Scarlett Rossa, a fierce lady who always wears at least a touch of red:

Thank you Arley Berryhill for creating such a wonderful pattern for us to use.

My second entry for the "Red" show at the Coast Collective is called "Cardinal Ideas", based on a pattern by Frowning Francis (another one of my favourite designers):

The show will be on from January 29th through March 8th at the Coast Collective in Victoria.

First Chance Craft Show-Sidney BC

Once the doll show was over (October 21st), I could not rest as the First Chance Craft Show was just around the corner (November 3 and 4th).

This was my second year at this juried show in Sidney BC and it was great fun and quite successful.  My ornaments were almost all sold (no dogs or kitties left) and many of my wooly critters went to new homes.  I even sold some of my larger bears and folk art dolls.

Here are some photos of my booth:

Now I have to get busy and make more ornaments for the Coast Collective Gift and Wishes show which starts November 14th and runs to December 23rd!

Go Figure III

Our doll club, the Cloth-a-dollics of Victoria, had a very successful gallery show at the Coast Collective Art Centre in Collwood.  Fourteen of our members participated and the reviews from the public and our peers were encouraging and very positive.  Here are some photos of the event: (October 10-21, 2018)

Thanks to all who came to see the show and to all who supported our endeavour.

Folk Art Dolls and Upcoming Doll Show

Well it is the start of a new year and I have fallen in love with making folk art dolls.  I found some great patterns on Etsy (Pixies Thimble by Cindy Conrad, and Sanker Studio by Brenda Sanker) and I went to town making animals.  They are all cloth, then gessoed and painted and antiqued with raw and burnt umber/coffee solution:

My Snow Bunny is made from a Brenda Sanker pattern

Mr Ollie, the carrot farmer, also made using a Brenda Sanker pattern

The remainder are from patterns by Cindy Conrad of Pixie's Thimble:

All of these dolls and more will be in my upcoming solo show at the Coast Collective from January 31 to February 11 in Collwood (Victoria, BC).

I hope you come and visit if you are in the neighbourhood.
